Spring Flowers…

Spring Flowers…

This week was about FLOWERS:

1️⃣ It’s been a minute since we’ve made a spring flower jelly, so I screamed YES when our friends at Toad Stop Farm (https://www.toadstopfarm.com/) asked me if I could use some violas!

A few things about flower jelly! (I DID RESEARCH THIS WEEK!) Spring edible flowers like violas share some chemical compounds with berries, which lends them (this one especially hubba hubba!) their vibrant pink color, and gives them a subtle berry flavor. We ate this on some crusty bread with good butter, and even grated some dark choc on top because WE ARE FANCY. We’ll have it this weekend!*

2️⃣ IN OTHER FLOWER NEWS!

I finally got around to starting a meadow build near our Evansburg apiary! This project has been on my to-do list for a few years-turning a semi-shaded pile of topsoil and firewood wheels into a native semi-shade meadow.

Meadow building is a LONG GAME-it takes three years of maintenance to build this valuable ecosystem! I’ll keep you updated, but here’s the start:

(NO, the bees did not like the noise and vibrations from the earth mover. YES, stings were aquired. This is why I never like using heavy equipment around beez. This one-time exception couldn’t be helped, and my spicy girlz have since forgiven me.)

That’s what we’ve been up to-FLOWERS! What have you been up to?

*THIS WEEKEND! Markets, right??

Bryn Mawr FM (OPENING DAY! 9-1!) and West Chester Growers Mkt (10-12!) Saturday,

Media FM Sunday. Come say hi, talk flowers, get loot. See you there!
