I did a 30 X 60 thing: I’ve been wanting a big subsistence garden ever since we moved three years ago, so we finally DID IT.
The soil here at The Ranch isn’t great, so I decided to build this garden with Hügelcultur basics-an organic substrate (6” of wood chips) and 10” of amended topsoil on top. The raised-up nature of this meant we needed a ‘frame’ to keep it intact (we used decaying wood.) And, of course, a sturdy fence to keep the plentiful wildlife in the park where they belong.
